Hiking and walking

The Fletcher Bay Recreation Reserve is the start / end point for the Coromandel Coastal Walkway from Fletcher Bay to Stony Bay.

The track is graded approx 1.5 (moderate) and is approx 7.5 km long.

From Fletcher Bay, the walkway leads through farm park land with some nice stands of nikau palm and magnificent views of the coastline and Great Barrier Island in the distance. Eventually, the track enters tea-tree forest. The bush then gets thicker, and eventually one descends into small Poley Bay, for some people this is as far as they want to go - stop for a picnic lunch, and return. If not, carry on up the hill, passed the bench and through more bush, with a quick side trip to the signposted  lookout, then on to Stony Bay.

The trip from either side takes about 6 hours return, so makes for a good days excursion with beautiful bush and coastal views.
